What You Need to Know About Instagram for 2024

Knowing everything about Instagram will never be possible - even for me! But I want to make sure you start 2024 feeling confident about what’s going to be big on the platform this year. Of course, these are predictions! Don’t stress about trying to implement every element in your Instagram strategy. Instead, I recommend you pick two - three to really focus on. 

Reels Are Here to Stay
It’s true! After making a huge impact in Instagram growth in 2023, they are predicted to do even better in 2024. If you want to increase your reach on Instagram this year, start turning some of your content into Reels.

Threads Might Not Last

Recently, Threads have seen a 70% decrease in their traffic. This is proof that you don’t have to jump on every new social media app that comes around! I anticipate Threads will continue a slow growth in 2024. (And I am not sad about it!) 

AI Is Going to Be Big

I mean how could it not be?! Whether it will be more Meta AI generated bot, or more AI features on Instagram itself, I’m not sure. For now, keep leaning into learning how to use AI to make your content creation easier and faster. 

It’s Time to Step Up Your SEO

One of the best ways to be discovered on Instagram in 2024 is to have an SEO strategy. Do your research and find the keywords that your target audience is searching for and put them in your reels and captions. Update Your Link in Bio

One of the most valuable elements on Instagram is your link in bio. You have so many options of what to put there - make sure to choose wisely! If you have a LinkTree make sure it doesn’t have dozens of links. When you give your audience too many options, they won’t know what to pick! (In fact, NOW is a great time to audit it.) 

Lean in to Unpolished

YES, posting on-brand content is vital to being seen as an expert in your niche on Instagram. But, that doesn’t mean it has to be perfectly curated. A lot of creators have been releasing ‘photo dumps’ as carousels. This means they are flipping through their camera rolls to find a few photos from their past month or week to ‘dump’ in a carousel post. These pictures are never really curated which makes them an awesome way for your followers to see a little bit more of a raw and real side to you and your world. (Don’t forget to use Stories as a way to show your followers more of the behind the scenes!) 

Instagram Live’s Comeback

There are a couple new features on Instagram Live that I think will make it more popular amongst brands and business owners. If you have a physical product to sell, showing off your products on Live is a great way to bring in new business. Plus, each of your followers gets a notification when you go Live!

Boost Your Content in 2024

Boosting posts (aka paying for ads) on Instagram is not new. But I anticipate more business owners will lean into this practice in 2024 since it’s got such a high ROI. Even if you spend $20 boosting one post, it will drive more traffic to other posts you haven’t even boosted. 

There you have it! It can be overwhelming knowing where to start with your Instagram strategy for a brand new year. That’s why I’ve spent the last six years perfecting a system that helps business owners grow online in a way that doesn’t make them cringe and saves time.
